DC, ADC among 6 injured as bus hits police vehicle in Sylhet

Six police personnel including deputy commissioner (DC) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) sustained injuries when a bus hit their vehicle during a special drive on the Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Temukhi in Sylhet district early Thursday (February 15).
The incident took place when the officers were operating a check-post established to enhance road safety measures.
The injured police officers include Additional DIG and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Azbahar Ali Sheikh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sadek Kawsar Dastagir, Assistant Commissioner of Airport Police Station Zahurul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Airport Police Station SM Nunu Mia, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim, and driver Nayek Habibur Rahman.
Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Zakir Hossain said the accident occurred when a ‘Real Coach’ bus from Sunamganj hit the police vehicle while undergoing checks, leaving six policemen injured.
The injured are being treated at a local hospital. Of the injured, Azbahar Ali Sheikh was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for better treatment as he was critically injured.
Police detained the bus supervisor and seized the vehicle.
However, the bus driver managed to flee the scene.
