Irrawaddy dolphin washed up on Himchari beach

A dead Irrawaddy dolphin was found washed up near the Himchari beach area at Cox’s Bazar on Thursday afternoon (February 15).
Locals spotted the six feet long dead dolphin from the area adjacent to Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf marine drive. On information, the dolphin protection committee visited the spot.
Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) director general professor Dr Towhida Rashid said the reason behind the death of the dolphin will be identified.
Tariqul Islam, a senior research official at Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute, said the dolphin died of suffocation at least two weeks ago after a rope wrapped around its body.
Earlier on Wednesday (February 14), a dead porpoise floated to the Sugandha point area of the sea beach.
