Khondoler Misti, a sweet originating in the Khandal of Feni district, is being included in the list of Geographical Indicator or GI products.
Feni Deputy Commissioner Mrs Shahina Akhtar at a development and coordination meeting on Monday (February 18) said Khondoler Misti has been selected to include in the list of GI products.
The ministry of industries has directed to send names of products, she said.
It is a variation of roshogolla. The specialty of this sweet is that while all other sweets of Bangladesh are consumed at cold or normal temperature, Khondoler misti is consumed hot along with normal temperature.
Geographical indication (GI) is a special name or symbol used for a material. This name or symbol is determined by the geographical location or source (such as a country, region, or city) of a particular item. Geographically recognized materials ensure certain quality standards or specific manufacturing systems or specialties. The biggest advantage of GI products is the branding of the product in the global market, which puts GI products ahead of any other equivalent product.
