Rail communication resumed after 15 hours

The railway services from Dhaka to Chattogram has been restored 15 hours after a train engine and nine coaches derailed near in Nangalkot upazila of Cumilla.
However, the rescue operation of five coaches of Bijoy Express is still underway.
The obstruction was cleared from the tracts enabling the resumption of rail services at around 5:00am on Monday, confirmed Divisional railway manager Saiful Islam.
He said upline of the rail line damaged completely after the derailment of Bijoy Express. Two relief train started rescue operation around 7:00pm. After a long effort, the compartments lying on the down line were pulled out of the line. The rail service in the line is now normal.
Earlier, the train derailed around 2:00pm in Nangalkot of Cumilla. The derailment, involving nine coaches, severed rail connections between Chittagong, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chandpur and caused damage to at least 500 meters of railway track.
