Youth held for lending ladder to passengers on highway

A video of passengers crossing the road divider using ladders on the middle of Dhaka-Chittagong highway, went viral on social media yesterday (March 17).

In the video, a youth was seen helping passengers to cross the road divider illegally. Later, police detained the youth with the ladders.

The detainee is known as Rabiul Hossain, a resident of Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram. He came to his sister’s home in Shimrail of Siddhirganj.

Shimrail police camp inspector Md Sharfuddin said a video of passengers crossing the road divider using a ladder went viral on Sunday. However, there are two foot-over bridges nearby.

Following the issue, Shahana Ferdous, executive engineer at Road Transport department in Narayanganj office, said passengers were seen using ladders in this way several times earlier. Later we seized the ladders with the help of Ansar forces.

It is very dangerous to cross the highway like this way. Patrolling of highway police need to increase to stop these activities, she added.
