Immense sufferings on Dhaka-Barishal highway

People are to face immense sufferings due to one lane on Dhaka-Barishal highway.

When other highways across the country have multiple lanes, then the Dhaka-Barishal highway has a single lane. Besides, illegal vehicles are running uncontrollably on this highway. As a result, sufferings are increasing day after day. Road users demand that vehicle movement on this highway should be controlled and also upgraded to multiple lanes.

About 48 km of the highway lies in Madaripur district. A total of nine accidents occurred on this highway in last 6 months. At least nine people were killed and 50 people were injured in the accidents. According to the Roads and Highways Department, about 18,000 vehicles ply on this highway every day.

At least five people were killed in a road accident at a place named Chagalchira in Muksudpur on Wednesday morning. Traffic movement was stopped for about two hours. Thousands of passengers in the southern region suffered due to this reason. Commuters complain that the highway is narrow and illegal vehicles are causing the woes.
