2,000 honey collectors ready to enter Sundarbans

The season to collect honey from the Sundarbans will begin April 1.
About 2,000 honey collectors are ready under Burigoalini and Kadamtala stations in Satkhira range area of the west Sundarbans. They are now arranging their boats at the eleventh hour.
A target has been set this year to collect 1,500 quintals of honey and 450 quintals of wax from Satkhira range.
Honey collectors are given permit (pass) after training. With the pass, the honey collectors go to the deep forest to collect honey. They are waiting for approval from Forest Department.
According to the Forest Department, 441 permits were issued for the collection of honey and wax in 2022. Against the permits, 2,898 honey collectors went to the Sundarbans and collected 1,449 quintals of honey and 334.70 quintals of wax. Tk 32,74,700 revenue was earned from honey and wax. In 2023, the revenue was Tk 27,68,500.
