One arrested over death of Ukhiya forest officer

Police arrested a person in a case filed over the death of a forest officer who was run over by a dumper truck used by bandits to steal soil from the hills of a forest reserve in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.
The arrestee is Syed Karim, 35.
Shafiul Alam, an official from the Forest Department’s Ukhiya Range, filed the case against 15 people including 10 named people early Monday (April 1).
The deceased Sajjaduzzaman, 30, was the son of Mohammad Shahjahan, hailed from Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. He was assigned to the Dosari Forest Beat.
Being informed that a group of bandits were cutting hills in Harinmara area early Sunday, Sajjaduzzaman along with some other forest officers went to the spot riding a motorcycle. Meanwhile, the dumper truck ran over him and fled the scene, leaving him dead on the spot.
