Separate road mishaps leave 8 dead in M’singh

Eight people including three of a same family have been killed in three separate road accidents in Mymensingh district.

The accidents took place in the Sadar, Trishal and Tarakanda upazilas on Tuesday (April 9).

Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station OC (investigation) Anwar Hossain said a Tangail-bound passenger bus rammed a Mahendra three-wheeler on Mymensingh-Tangail highway at Lengrabazar area under Sadar upazila in the early afternoon, leaving three passengers, also the members of same family, dead and three others injured.

The deceased were identified as Lutfar Rahman, 30, his wife Shahnaj, 25, and a baby boy Mahit, 2. Baby boy Mahit died on the spot while the rest two succumbed at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The deceased hailed from Dighirpar area under Jhenigati upazila in Sherpur district. The couple used to work at a garment factory at Masterbari area under Bhaluka upazila. They were returning home receiving Eid holidays but died in tragic road accident on their way home.

Trishal Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kamal Hossain said two passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed being rammed by a speeding bus on Trishal-Tangail road at Baliara in Trishal.

Two more people were killed as a Mymensingh-bound bus hit a pickup on Dhaka- Mymensingh highway in Darirampur area of the same upazila, the OC added.

On the other hand, another was killed in a road crash on Dhobaura road in Tarakanda upazila. The deceased could not be identified immediately.
