Train collision in Gazipur disrupts rail link with northern districts

Several people have been injured as a Tangail commuter train collided head-on with a freight train near the Joydebpur Railway Junction in Gazipur.
Train communication between Dhaka and northern districts of the country remained suspended after the incident this morning (May 3).
A three-member probe committee has been formed over the accident.
Fire service and railway sources said at least 5-7 people including the driver of the Tangail commuter train were injured. They are being treated at Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
Deputy commissioner of Gazipur Abul Fate Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said investigation is underway to find the exact reason behind the train crash.
A probe committee is formed. The committee is asked to submit its report within the next two days, he added.
