Fire breaks out at Sundarbans

A fire broke out in the Amarbunia area of Chandpai range in the eastern region of the Sundarbans under Bagerhat on Saturday (May 4) afternoon.

Chandpai range officer Rana Deb said, “Initially, fishermen found smoke inside the forest and later informed forest officials. They are trying to extinguish the blaze.”

Kazi Mohammad Nurul Karim, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Department, said forest officials with the help of locals are trying to bring the fire under control.

A unit from the Morrelganj fire station left for the spot, he added.

The reason behind the fire and the damage could not be known immediately.
