Two farmers killed in Habiganj lightning strikes

Two farmers were killed by lightning strikes in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district.

The incident took place at Rupsopur Dakkhin haor in Mirashi union under the upazila on Tuesday (June 4).

The deceased were identified as Abdus Salam, 40, son of late Abdur Rashid, resident of Bhularjum village in Mirashi union under the Chunarughat upazila and Prosu Devnath, 40, son of Satish Devnath, resident of Rupsopur village in Chunarughat upazila of the district.

According to local sources, Salam and Prosu Devnath were killed by lightning strikes when they were working on a land.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chunarughat Police Station Hillol Roy said, “We heard that two people have been killed by lightning strikes. Police visited the spot. Bodies will be handed over to their families following legal procedure.”
