The Election Commission (EC) has again postponed the upazila parishad election in Baghaichhari of Rangamati, slated to be held tomorrow (June 9), due to concerns over deteriorating law and order because of enforced dawn-to-dusk blockade and inclement weather conditions.
Rangamati Senior Election Officer and Returning Officer Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed the information on Saturday (June 8).
Monir Hossain said that election materials could not be sent to the remote centres due to inclement weather. Additionally, considering the overall law and order situation, the Election Commission postponed the election in Baghaichhari.
Meanwhile, the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) is observing dawn-to-dusk blockade in Baghaichhari on Saturday, demanding ‘fair and peaceful’ elections.
Mentionable, the EC postponed the upazila parishad election in Baghaichhari due to the cyclone Remal although it was supposed to be held on May 29.
