‘Constable accused of killing colleague had mental health issues’

Police constable Kawsar Ahmed who has been accused of killing his colleague Monirul Islam, also a police constable, had long-term mental health issues, claimed family members.
Family members of the accused constable made the claim on Monday (June 10).
Kawsar Ali is the younger of two sons of freedom fighter Hayat Ali Master, of Daulatpur Upazila in Kushtia district.
Local sources said Kawsar joined the Bangladesh Police on 15 December 2005. He was diagnosed with mental illness in 2010 after spending five years on the job. Later, he was admitted to Pabna mental hospital several times.
The family members also claimed that Kawsar had no involvement with drugs.
Kawsar's mother Mabia Khatun said, “My son is a good human being. He became ill after joining the service. I spoke to him at 8 pm on Saturday. At that time, he talked to me nicely. He also inquired about myself and his father's health.”
