Jute official trains her relatives 

An allegation has found that Jharna Akter, jute development officer of Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon, trained her relatives including father-in-law, brother-in-law and cousins  in a bid to misappropriate project money.

A training programme was held on Thursday (June 28) afternoon at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium.  

Most of the participants were residents of another upazila and her relatives. 

Higher authorities visited the spot immediately and recommended departmental actions against her.

It is known that the upazila administration and textile and jute ministry’s Thakurgaon office organized a day-long training for 150 jute and seed farmers at the Upazila Parishad auditorium under the advanced technology-based jute and jute seed production and expansion project. Although 150 people were trained, 92 farmers were present. About 60 of them were residents of neighboring Pirganj and Ranisankail upazilas. But according to the rules of the project, the trainees must be residents of their own upazila.
