Flood hits Sylhet again

The water level of all rivers including Surma, Kushiyara rivers increased in last 24 hours in Sylhet.

Six points across Surma, Kushiyara, Sari Gowain rivers exceeded danger levels around 9:00am on Tuesday (July 2). Floods have occurred in bordering upazila areas of the district. The upazila administration has issued a warning.

Sylhet water development board sources said water was flowing over 118 cm above the danger limit at Kanighat point of Surma river around 9 am on Tuesday. Besides, Kushiyara is flowing over 71 cm at Amalshid point, 93 at Fenchuganj point, 22 cm at Sheola point, and 22 cm at Sherpur point. Water levels at all rivers are continued to rise.

Deepak Ranjan Das, executive engineer of Sylhet water development board, said heavy rains are continuing. For which the water is rising. Rain will continue for couple of more days.

Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Hasan said the preparation to tackle flood was given earlier. Flood-shelter were also kept ready.
