The water levels of Brahmaputra and Dharla rivers rose higher and were flowing above danger level. The rising of water levels in the rivers in Kurigram caused flooding in its lower reaches.
Around 15,000 families in the lower areas of the district are trapped as water has entered their houses.
Local water development board said the water level in Dharla River rose higher and was flowing 12 cm above the danger level at Shimulbari Point and Brahmaputra was flowing 11cm above the danger level at Nunkhawa point this morning (July 3).
Mohsin Ali, a resident at Jalaler intersection area of Panchgachi union said Dharla river is flowing on one side of this area and Brahmaputra on the other. The waters of two rivers have risen causing flood in our areas. The roads are submerged here.
Kurigram water development board executive engineer Rakibul Hasan said the water levels in the rivers would increase more in the next 24 hours.
