Rohingya man killed, 2 hurt in landmine explosion in Naf River

A Rohingya youth was killed and two others were injured in a landmine explosion during crab harvesting in the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar on Sunday (July 7).

The deceased was known as Jobayer, 19, son of Abdul Hamid. The injured were Shah Alam, 30, a resident of the Jadimura area, and Md Shukur, 24, from Damdamia BGB Camp area.

The incident took place in Jadimura area of Hinla union of the Teknaf upazila.

Teknaf naval police station in-charge Tapan Kumar Biswas said three Rohingya youths went to the river around 12:00pm to harvest crabs. At one stage, they went to Laldia of Myanmar crossing zero-line and started catching crabs. Meanwhile, a mine in the muddy ground exploded with a loud noise and injured all three of them.

Later, they managed to return to Bangladeshi waters with their injuries but Jobayer succumbed to his injuries.
