Water level in Surma river rise, 1 lakh people marooned in Sylhet

Water level in all rivers is rising due to water from upstream and continuous rainfall in Sunamganj. The Surma river is flowing at 37cm above the danger level.
Third phase flood situation has been created in the region. Over one lakh people have been marooned in the district.
Due to torrential downpour and rain, the water level of Surma river increased by 37 cm overnight at Sholghar point of Sunamganj.
Sunamganj water development board on Friday morning (July 12) said that Surma river water is flowing 26 cm above the flood limit at Sholghar point of Sunamganj municipality around 6:00 am.
According to their information, due to rains in Cherrapunji, India, water through the hill slopes came down and the water flowed rapidly towards Dhopajan, Jadukata and Patlai and Khasiamar, Chela rivers bordering Sunamganj. Besides, the water level has increased in Haor.
Mamun Hawlader, Executive engineer of Sunamganj water development board said that the water level of Surma river in Sunamganj has risen above the danger level following the heavy rain in Sunamganj in the last 24 hours.
