14,000 families marooned in Habiganj

Most of the upazilas of Habiganj district have been inundated due to upstream water and heavy rainfall for several days.
Till Friday 14,340 families in the district have been marooned.
Although the water level in the Khowai River has slightly decreased, it continues to flow above the danger level at all points.
The Khowai, Kushiyara, Korangi and Bheramohana rivers are flowing above the danger level.
The flood was triggered by torrential rains over the past three days and water flowing in from India’s Tripura, causing widespread flooding and breaches in the Khowai Dam at Jalalabad and Laskarpur.
According to the District Disaster Management and Relief Office, a total of 57,560 people have been affected in Habiganj distrcit. A total of 125 shelter centres have been opened.
The district administration has allocated 965 metric tonnes of rice, 1,560 packets of dry food and Tk 2, 327,500 in cash.
