16 gates of Kaptai lake closed

The authority closed the sixteen gates (spillways) of the Kaptai hydro-electric power plant in Rangamati around 2:00pm on Sunday (August 25).
Engineer ATM Abduzzaher, manager of Karnaphuli Hydropower Station confirmed the matter.
Earlier, the authorities opened the gates at 8:00 am today, to release 9,000 cusecs of water.
There are 16 spillways with a length of 12.2 meters and a width of 11.3 meters in the dam. According to sources at the hydroelectric plant, the maximum water holding capacity of the dam constructed over the Kapatai Lake is 109 MSL.
