Youth held with 105 gold bars at Sylhet Airport

Customs intelligence officers and members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) detained a youth along with 105 gold bars at the Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Wednesday (August 28).

The gold bars, weighting 12kg, were seized from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-252) arriving from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates around 8 am.

The detained passenger, Hussain Ahmad, 20, hails from Goramarakandi village in the Toakul Bazar area of Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.

According to airport sources, the passenger had bypassed aviation security officers and crossed the green channel to reach the parking area. Later, the customs intelligence personnel and NSI members stationed at Osmani Airport challenged him and brought him back to the green channel.

Upon conducting a search, they found 105 gold bars in his two pieces of luggage.
