70 garment factories shut amid workers’ protest in Ashulia

The authorities of at least 70 garment factories in Ashulia industrial area have announced shutdown of those factories on Wednesday (September 4) amid the workers’ protest.
The employees of different factories from Baipail to Zirabo area on the Baipail-Abdullahpur road entered the factories around 8 am.
Around 8:30 am, workers started protest in front of the factories operational, calling for various demands including making changes and revisions to the factory’s policies through official notices, ensuring an annual wage increase every February in line with current conditions, removing all Indian employees from workers to management positions within the factory, and guaranteeing that no worker will be harassed, dismissed or terminated after rejoining work.
They also threw brickbats aiming at the factories.
At one stage, the authorities were bound to announce the closure of their factories around 10am.
The protesters then took position at different points of Abdullahpur-Baipail road, causing a long tailback on the street.
Members of industrial police, army and BGB were trying to bring the situation under control.
