Abu Sayed murder: 2 cops put on 4-day remand

A Rangpur court has granted a four-day remand for the two police officials who were arrested in a case filed over the murder of Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University.

Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 Judge Asaduzzaman passed the remand order on Tuesday (September 10).

The police officials who were placed on remand are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amir Hossain and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy.

The two accused were brought to court under heavy security around 9am.

The investigating officer, Rangpur Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Superintendent of Police Zakir Hossain, sought a five-day remand for them.

On Monday, the PBI arrested ASI Amir Hossain and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy. They were earlier suspended and attached to police lines.

Abu Sayed, a 12th batch student at Begum Rokeya University, was shot and killed by police during a student-led protest on July 16.

A murder case was officially filed by Abu Sayed’s elder brother, Ramzan Ali on August 19 at Tajhat Police Station. It named 17 individuals and mentioned an additional 30-35 unidentified persons.

Two police officers were found involved in the incident in an investigation launched on July 18.
