A 26-kilometer tailback has paralyzed the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, leaving over hundreds of vehicles stranded since dawn on Wednesday.
The gridlock has stretched for a 26-kilometre portion of the highway from Meghna toll plaza to Daudkandi.
Sources said a covered van turned turtle in Gouripur area of Daudkandi. Later, the traffic jam was spread to Meghna Bridge.
Mafizul Islam, a driver of a Cumilla-bound bus, said initially the Cumilla-bound lane was closed but now the both lanes are stuck due to the tailback.
Riad Hossain, a Sub-Inspector at Gazaria highway police outpost, said that a covered van overturned in the Shahid Nagar area of the Daudkandi section of the highway causing the traffic jam. Later, the gridlock spread on the highway. We are trying to ease the traffic jam.
