5 killed as covered van hits auto-rickshaw in Gazipur

Five people were killed and another was injured after a covered van ran over a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur on Saturday (September 14) night.
The accident took place in the area adjacent to Mulgaon Darul Ulum Dhakhil Madrasa on the Kaliganj-Tongi-Ghorasal bypass road around 11pm.
All the deceased were the passengers of the auto-rickshaw. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ali, 55, and his son Aman Ullah, 5, and Rabeya Begum, 70, of Shibpur in Narsingdi; Amal Kumar Karmakar, 39, of Ashtagana Colony in Noagaon of Gazipur city; and Nazmul, 35, of Hajipur of Satkhira Sadar upazila.
Local sources said a covered van hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area adjacent to Mulgaon Darul Ulum Dhakhil Madrasa on the Kaliganj-Tongi-Ghorasal bypass road in the upazila around 11pm, leaving four passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two others, including a child, critically injured.
The injured were rushed to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared the child dead.
Mostafizur Rahman of Kaliganj Fire Service said that four bodies, including a woman, were recovered from the spot and a child was declared dead after he was rushed to a hospital by locals.
Rezina Afrin, duty doctor at the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, said the child was brought dead around 11:30 pm. Another critically injured auto-rickshaw driver was referred to Dhaka for better treatment after providing primary treatment.
