Lightning strikes kill 9 in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Sirajganj

Nine people were killed being struck by lightning strikes in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Sirajganj on Saturday.
According to locals and witnesses, a storm swept across the Sylhet and Sunamganj districts around noon, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
Two died in Jaintiapur, two in Kanaighat, one in Companiganj, one in Goainghat and one in Bishwambharpur upazila of Sunamganj.
The adverse weather resulted in lightning strikes in Jaintiapur, claiming the lives of two people.
In Jaintiapur, two victims were identified as Nahid Ahmed, 13, and Abdul Mannan Moni, 45. Nahid was reportedly standing near his home when lightning hit him, leading to his immediate death. Abdul Mannan, who was working in a nearby field, also succumbed to the lightning strike.
Jaintiapur Model Police Station officer-in-charge Tajul Islam confirmed the matter. In Kanaighat, Kala Mia, 30, and Nur Uddin, 59, were victims of the same storm.
Kanaighat Police Station OC Jahangir Hossain Sardar confirmed the matter.
In the meantime, at Bishwambharpur upazila of Sunamganj district, a farmer named Deen Islam was died after being hit by a thunderbolt as he was working on his crop field amid the storm.
Two people were killed in Ullapara of Sirajganj.
