Blockade enters 2nd day in Rangamati, Khagrachhari

Protesters are observing the 72-hour road and waterway blockade under the banner of ‘Bikkhubda Jumma Chhatra-Janata’ in Rangamati and Khagrachhari for the second consecutive day, condemning the recent attacks, arson, and violence on ethnic minorities.
Road communication of Rangamati, Dhaka and Chattogram with has remained suspended due to the blockade.
United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a regional political party, has extended its full support to the blockade in three hill districts.
Meanwhile, the protesters continued their demonstration by burning tyres on the road. However, no violent incidents happened so far centering the blockade.
Superintendent of Khagrachhari police Arefin Juwel told the media that security measures have been beefed up in the areas to avoid further violence. Patrolling of army, BGB and police has been intensified.
Meanwhile, at least 1,500 tourists have been stranded in Sajek valley due to the ongoing blockade.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akter confirmed that no vehicles were allowed to leave due to safety concerns, but tourists are safe in Sajek. Further action will depend on the evolving situation.
