Ex-industries minister Nurul Majid sent to jail after dismissing remand plea

A court in Narsingdi has rejected the remand petition of former industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun and sent him to jail in a case filed for killing a workers’ leader in the district’s Madhabdi upazila on August 4 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Narsingdi Judicial Magistrate Rakibul Islam passed the order on Wednesday (September 25).
Earlier around 12pm, Nurul Majid was presented in court with five-day remand prayer.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested Nurul Majid from Gulshan area in the capital early Wednesday (September 25).
Workers’ leader Jahangir Hossain was killed during an attack on the quota protesters on August 4. Later, the victim’s elder brother Amir Hossain filed the case with Madhabdi Police Station on August 9. Following the case filed, Nurul Majid was arrested.
