Floods feared in 4 districts as Teesta swells

The water level of Teesta river has increased further in Lalmonirhat due to onrush of upstream water and heavy rains.

The water surge in the river may inundate low-lying areas of four districts adjacent to the river, crossing the danger limit.

However, the water development board said that this water will recede gradually.

At Dalia Point in the Teesta Barrage area at 9 am on Saturday (September 28), the river was flowing 15 cm below the danger mark.

Earlier, the Water Development Board (WDB) opened all the 44 gates of Teesta Barrage as the river was flowing 32 cm below the danger mark at 6pm yesterday.

On the other hand, incessant rain continues even today like last two days, disrupting public life.

The Water Development Board said that the Teesta water may rise further and flow over the danger mark, inundating some low-lying areas adjacent to the river banks of Nilphamari, Rangpur and Kurigram along with Lalmonirhat.
