Court declares Shahadat as Chattogram mayor

A court in Chattogram has declared BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain as the mayor of Chattogram City Corporation in a case filed by him seeking cancellation of the election result.

The court also asked the authority concerned to publish a gazette notification in this regard within the next 10 days.

The Election Tribunal and the Court of Joint District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Khairul Amin passed the order on Tuesday (October 1).

Besides, the court declared the Chattogram City Corporation Election 2021 illegal on charge of vote rigging.

On February 24, 2021, mayoral candidate Dr Shahadat Hossain filed the case with the court, seeking an order to scrap the gazette notification declaring Rezaul Karim Chowdhury as Chattogram mayor.
