Garment workers block highway in Ashulia

The readymade garments workers have blocked roads and highway demanding arrears in Ashulia of Savar in Dhaka.

Sources said that four the factories of Birds Group declared shut without paying salaries of workers. Later, around 2,000 workers of the factories of staged demonstration on Wednesday morning (October 2).

The protest program created huge traffic jam in both sides of the highway there.

A worker named Babu said we were supposed to pay all our dues last September 30. Meanwhile, they have put this notice of closure saying the dues will be paid three months later. How the factory owners can take the decision without any discussion?

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Savar Circle of Dhaka District Police. Shahinur Kabir said that the workers have blocked the road from the last 48 hours. Due to this all the roads from Dhaka to North Bengal and Khulna are closed.
