3 rivers in Sherpur flowing above danger level

Sherpur Water Development Board reported that the water of Moharashi, Chellakhali and Bhogai Rivers were flowing above the danger level due to heavy rainfall.

Jhenaigati Bazar and couple of villages were flooded following the overflow rivers.

According to the district water development board, the maximum rainfall was 260 mm in the last night. Onrush water from upstream and heavy rainfall caused the surge of water levels. At least 30 educational institutions have been flooded already. Besides, water entered into several mosques, madrasa and business farms.

Out of the four important points in the district, water is flowing above the danger level at three points. The water is flowing 172cm above the danger level in Nakugaon point, 56cm in Nalitabari point and 525cm in Batkuchi point of Bhogai river.

On the other hand, the farmers and fishing farm workers are in tension due to the increase of river water in Mrigi River.

Jhanigati upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Md Ashraful Alam Rasel said that last night's heavy rains and floods from the upstream flooded many villages. However, the extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained.
