One dies after oil tanker catches fire in Ctg

A person who was burnt in a fire that broke out on the ship ‘Banglar Sourav’, owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram Port has succumbed to his burn injuries.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital early Saturday (October 5).

The deceased is Sadek Mia, 60, son of late Yunus Mia, a resident of Cumilla’s Nangalkot upazila.

Md Kafil Uddin, mobilizing officer of the fire service’s Chattogram divisional office, confirmed the matter.

According to fire service, the fire originated at about 1 am on Saturday after an explosion on the oil tanker, which had been anchored in the Bay of Bengal near the Karnaphuli River.

After being informed, members of coast guard and navy and the port authorities rushed to the spot and recovered at least 36 people. Later, they were admitted to a hospital nearby where one succumbed to his injuries early today at the time of receiving treatment.
