Barishal medical college fire under control

A fire that broke out at the Medicine Unit of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital in Barishal on Sunday (October 13) morning has been brought under control.

The fire that originated around 9 am at the ground floor of the hospital’s Medicine Unit was brought under control around 11 am.

On information, eight units of local Fire Service and Civil Defence stations rushed to the spot to douse the flame. Around 50-60 patients and their relatives were moved to safe places at this time.

Nijamul Islam, deputy director at the Fire Service and Civil Defence in Barishal, said the fire service personnel brought the fire under control following their frantic effort of around two hours.

No casualties were reported in this connection.

Acting director of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital Dr Moniruzzaman Shahin confirmed the information and said the extent of the damage caused by the fire could not be estimated right now.
