Transport workers begin indefinite strike in Sunamganj

Transport workers have begun an indefinite strike in Sunamganj demanding an end to toll collection at Admiral MA Khan Bridge.

Operation of all types of public transport, including buses, has been suspended from 6 am on Wednesday (October 23). As a result, ordinary passengers are suffering the most.

A student named Samain Rashed said, “My master’s exam is going on. I have to appear at the exam in Sylhet. After arriving at the bus station, I came to know that the workers’ strike is going on. Now I fell into a great danger.”

A passenger named Mohammad Suhel Mia said, “I live in Chattogram for work. I came home on vacation. I got into trouble due to lack of bus”.

Bashir Ahmed Talukder, president of the management committee of the labour branch, said: “We formed a human chain on October 13 to demand a stop to toll collection at the Admiral MA Khan bridge at Lamakaji on the Sunamganj-Sylhet road. Besides, we have given memoranda at various times. But toll collection did not stop. That’s why, we have stopped working from today. Our work abstention will continue until the toll collection is stopped.”
