Over 500 more Rohingyas are going to Bhasan Char in Noakhali as part of the 24th batch of refugees to be relocated to the remote island from Cox’s Bazar.
Mohammad Shamsud Douza Nayan, additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation commissioner, said buses carrying the displaced Myanmar people departed from Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya for Chattogram at Monday midnight.
He said, “The Rohingyas willing to move to Bhasan Char have begun to gather at the Ukhiya Degree College premises since Monday evening. The authorities, including the Office of the Refugee, Relief and Relocation Commissioner, are already carrying out the registration of the Rohingya who came there. Later, buses carried them to Chattogram’s Patenga from Ukhiya around midnight.”
After reaching Patenga on Tuesday morning, the Rohingyas will be taken to Bhasan Char by ship, Nayan said.
Previously, in the 23rd batch on February 14, a total of 1,527 Rohingya refugees moved to Bhasan Char. Earlier, around 32,000 Rohingya were relocated to the island in 22 phases.
The relocation process began on December 4, 2020.
