Fisherman shot dead by pirates in Cox’s Bazar

A group of armed pirates shot dead a fisherman in Sonadia Channel in the Bay of Bengal in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar early Thursday (November 7).
The deceased was known as Mokarram, son of late Jafar Ahmed, hailed from Azim Uddin Sikderpara of Uttar Dhurung union in Kutubdia.
Abdul Halim, chairman of the union parishad, said that Mokarram Majhi was shot by pirates in the western part of Sonadia while fishing in the sea. Several other fishermen are missing in this incident.
Quoting fishermen, a local person named the fishermen went fishing at the Bay on the trawler late on Wednesday night. Armed pirates attacked the trawler. Mokarram was shot at that time.
Banshkhali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said on information, police recovered the body.
