19 AL UP members arrested from ‘secret meeting’ in Cox’s Bazar

Police arrested 19 members of various Union Parishads (UP) of Cox’s Bazar district while they were holding a ‘secret meeting’ at a residential hotel in Kolatoli area of the district.
They were arrested from the conference room of the hotel on Friday (November 8) night.
It is known that the UP members participated in the meeting of the members association which is consisted by the UP members of nine upazilas of the district. At one stage, police came and foiled the meeting. The police cordoned off the hall room for hours.
Among the arrestees, Zahir Ahmed, a UP member of Teknaf Sadar Union Parishad, said about 70 UP members were present in the meeting. In the meeting, participants were discussing how to work in the transitional period of the country. Suddenly some boys claiming to be police and coordinators stormed and foiled our meeting.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Faizul Azim Noman said that hearing the news that UP members supported by Awami League were holding a secret meeting at the hotel, a team of police conducted a raid and arrested 19 out of 70 UP members present in the meeting.
“Those who are wanted in various cases have been arrested,” the OC said.
