Beximco workers block Gazipur highway again

Workers of Beximco Industrial Park on Tuesday (November 19) blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar highway in Sarabo Chakrabarty area of Gazipur metropolitan demanding their overdue wages.

For the fourth consecutive day, the workers have been blocking the highway to press their demand. The strike caused sever traffic congestion as vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.

Industrial police sources said that 41,000 workers, including staff, work at Beximco Park. Their monthly salary is Tk80 to Tk82 crore. They used to be paid between the 7th and 10th of every month. But now they are not getting their salaries properly because the owners are not there.

Kashimpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Saiful Islam said as usual, workers from Beximco Industrial Park blocked the road today. They block the road all day and later voluntarily they leave the road at night.
