A fish trader was beaten to death by his cousin in Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila.
The incident took place at Sonaikundi Laskar Para of the upazila early Saturday (November 23).
The deceased was identified as Apel Laskar, 50, son of late Amjad Laskar.
Police, however, detained Apel’s cousin Sajedul Laskar, 32.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Sheikh Awal Kabir confirmed the news.
Quoting local people, the OC said Sajedul Laskar beat up Apel with a stick while he was on his way to Bheramara for purchasing fish, leaving Apel dead on the spot.
Hearing screams, local people rushed to the spot and caught Sajedul red handed and, later, handed him over to police.
Police sent the body to Kushtia Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Initially, it is suspected that Sajedul is a drug addict and he killed Apel for money.
