Thousands join Saiful Islam’s janaza

Saiful Islam Alif, a lawyer and APP of Chattogram Court, was killed in a clash over a court order to send Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari to jail on Tuesday afternoon.

Thousands of people joined the namaz-e-janaza of Saiful Islam on the court premises at 10 am and at Jamiatul Falah National Mosque ground at 11 am on Wednesday.

Land Affairs Adviser AF Hassan Ariff, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami Chattogram Metropolitan Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Coordinators Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, among others, joined the janaza.

In the afternoon, a final janaza will be held in Chattogram's Lohagara, before his burial there, according to sources.

He became a member of Zila Ainjibi Samiti in 2018 and registered with the High Court later.

Saiful Islam Alif was injured when followers of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari clashed with law enforcers at a Chattogram court demanding his release.

Saiful Islam Alif was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital at around 3:30pm where duty doctors declared him dead. 

A court in Chattogram sent former ISKCON leader Chandan Kumar Dhar to jail after dismissing his bail petition in connection with a sedition case.
