3 killed in Naogaon road crashes

Three people were killed in separate road accidents in Naogaon’s Sadar and Mahadebpur upazilas on Tuesday (December 3).

The accidents took place in front of the town’s Palli Bidyut and in Ranipukur area on the Naogaon-Rajshahi regional highway in Mahadebpur upazila this morning.

The identities of the deceased have been identified as Abul Kashem, 75, of Bhabanigachhi Dewan Para village in Naogaon Sadar Upazila, and Sumon Mia, 40, of Kamarnai village in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila, but the identity of the other person could not be known immediately.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station Abu Taher said that elderly Abul Kashem was walking along the side of the road in front of Palli Bidyut Samity towards Baludanga bus stand in the morning. At that time, a speedy pick-up van heading towards Naogaon town hit him from behind. He died on the spot.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, he said.

Inspector Abu Bakar Siddique of Nawhata Police Outpost said truck driver Sumon Mia was heading towards Rajshahi via Naogaon early in the morning with a truck loaded with hay. When he reached Ranipukur area on the way, the truck lost control and fell into a ditch. Driver Sumon and his helper died on the spot.
