Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF in Panchagarh border

A Bangladeshi national was shot to death allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Panchagarh border on Friday (December 6).

The deceased was known as Anwar Hossain, 40, son of Rafiqul Islam, hailed from Debnagar union of Tetulia upazila.

BGB and local sources said that Anwar went to India late Thursday night with a few others to fetch cows. On Friday morning, while they were returning with cows, BSF members chased them inside the Indian border. At that time, locals heard several rounds of gunfire.

Meanwhile, upon hearing the gunshots and to deter the smugglers, members of the BGB camp in Panchagarh also fired eight blank rounds. Later, the BSF took Anwar's body from the scene.

Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Md Badruddoza said we will strongly protest against the incident. The process of bringing back the body through a flag meeting is underway.
