Commuter train service launched on Dhaka-Joydebpur route

Bangladesh Railway has launched two pairs of new commuter trains on Dhaka-Joydebpur-Dhaka route to further improve communication between Gazipur and Dhaka.
Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges; and Ministry of Railways, has inaugurated the service at Joydebpur Railway Station at 7 am on Sunday (December 15).
The service aims to enhance connectivity for the people of Gazipur, a growing industrial hub.
This was announced in a press statement issued by Nahid Hasan Khan, director of the public relations department of the Director General’s office of Bangladesh Railways on Thursday last.
Residents of Gazipur have expressed excitement and optimism since the news of the new train services spread.
According to the notification, Bangladesh Railway has decided to start operations of two pairs of commuter trains from December 15.
The trains are – Turag Commuter 1, Turag Commuter 2, Joydebpur Commuter 1 and Joydebpur Commuter 2.
The Turag Commuter 1 train will start its journey from Dhaka at 5am and reach Joydebpur at 6am, making stops at Dhaka Airport and Tongi Station.
The Turag Commuter 2 train will depart from Joydebpur Station at 6:30am, arriving at Dhaka Station at 7:40am. It will stop at Tejgaon, Banani, Dhaka Airport, Tongi and Dhirashram.
On the other hand, the Joydebpur Commuter 1 train will leave Dhaka at 5:25am and reach Joydebpur Station at 6:25am, stopping at Tejgaon, Dhaka Airport and Tongi.
The Joydebpur Commuter 2 train will depart from Joydebpur at 7:10am and arrive in Dhaka at 8:25am.
However, the Turag Commuter will not operate on Fridays, while the Joydebpur Commuter will be closed on Saturdays.
Meanwhile, residents of Gazipur have expressed excitement and optimism as the new commuter train services launched on the route.
