2 killed in clash over control of Ijtema ground

Two people were killed and many others injured after the supporters of Jobayer and Saad factions locked into a violent clash over control of the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur.

However, pro-Jobayer supporters claimed that three people were killed in the clash.

The incident took place around 4am on Wednesday (December 18).

The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam Bachchu (55), a resident of Kishoreganj district, and Belal (60), son of Abdus Samad from Beraid area, South Khan, Dhaka.

Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh Shurai Nejam (Media Coordinator) Habibullah Raihan said, “Supporters of Saad faction swooped on supporters of Jobayer faction early today. So far, we came to know that three people were killed in the clash and the death toll is likely to increase further.”

Iskander Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, said, “Deaths of two people have been confirmed and many injured people are being treated at hospitals in this connection.”
