5 killed as truck rams auto-rickshaw in Cox’s Bazar

Five people were killed as a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday (December 19).

The incident took place at Hajir bazar area in Toitong union of the upazila around 7am.

Four of the deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Monirul Mannan, Firoj Ahmed and his wife Sharmin Jannat and their six-month child Jahed. Other deceased could not be identified immediately.

Quoting eyewitnesses, Sirajul Mostafa, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pekua Police Station, said a truck crashed into an auto-rickshaw heading towards Chattogram from Pekua, leaving five passengers of the auto-rickshaw critically injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Pekua upazila hospital where duty doctor declared them dead.
