A truck has fallen into the Turag River after the Bailey Bridge on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway collapsed in Tongi of Gazipur.
No casualties were reported in this connection.
The incident took place around 5 am on Saturday (December 21).
Meanwhile, the Gazipur Metropolitan Police have requested all passengers and vehicles using this route to avoid the Bailey bridge and use the alternate route through the Kamarpara Munnugate.
A stone-laden freight truck was crossing the bridge early on Saturday morning when it collapsed, said Ibrahim Khan, deputy police commissioner of GMP.
Police rushed to the scene when the incident occurred, he said.
The Roads and Highways Department has been informed about the bridge collapse and will take action on the matter, the police official said.
