Police say the purpose of killing seven people by launching an attack on a fertiliser-carrying vessel in the Meghna River in Chandpur was not a robbery. They suspect there is another mystery behind the incident.
According to police and administration officials, this is a planned murder. The police, naval police, coast guard, CID, administration and other relevant agencies have initiated the work to unravel the real mystery behind the murders. It is believed that these murders were carried out to create unrest on the waterway.
Syed Mushfiqur Rahman, Superintendent of Chandpur Naval Police, said, “We are receiving reports that there were nine people, not eight on the ship. Although it initially seemed like a robbery, we are now proceeding with the assumption that it was a planned murder. We are looking into whether this was carried out to create unrest on the waterway. The autopsy report is expected to be received around 11 am. After that, the process of handing over the bodies to the relatives will begin.”
Earlier, at around 3:30pm yesterday, the River Police recovered five bodies from MV Al Bakhera, owned by Messrs Brishti Enterprise.
Three others were found critically injured, two of whom later died at Chandpur General Hospital.
Initially, many suspect that the incident might have been a robbery attack carried out by pirates.
