Young girl burned to death in Brahmanbaria pit

A young woman was allegedly burned to death after being thrown into a pit in Akhaura of Brahmanbaria district on Tuesday (December 24).

Police arrested a suspected murderer named Farhan Roni for his involvement.

The arrestee in this incident is Farhan Roni, son of Shahnewaz Bhuiyan, general secretary of the Dakshin Union Jubo League in the Upazila. Locals allege that Farhan is also involved in drug trafficking.

Locals and witnesses said a swan was stolen from the house of a person in the Gazir Bazar area. The duck's owners - two brothers Enamul and Roman, and their cousin Obaidul - went out to look for the swan. At around 7:00 am on Tuesday, they saw smoke from an abandoned tin house on Shahnewaz's land and smelt something burning. Then, Farhan Roni replied that he was burning dry leaves.

However, the reply could not satisfy them. Meanwhile, Enamul and Roman asked to see inside the house. Farhan then got angry and threatened to kill them. As their suspicions grew, they gathered a group of villagers together and went to the scene, where they found the body burning in the pit.

Akhaura police station’s Inspector (probe) Shahinur Islam said that most of the deceased’s body has been burnt. It is suspected that the body is that of a woman.
